Pedals
The CVP Series provides an authentic grand piano pedaling experience through GrandTouch™ and GranTouch™ with GP Response Damper mechanisms, and new grand piano shaped pedals.
- GrandTouch™ pedals reproduce the feel of grand piano pedals by offering lower resistance when returning the pedals than when depressing them.

- GrandTouch™ with GP Response Damper further enhances pedaling by allowing for calibration of the half-pedal position and a graded weight throughout the full motion of the pedal, with light resistance when first pressed that becomes gradually heavier.

Piano Sound
Unlike any other digital piano, the Clavinova CVP Series harnesses the expertise of Yamaha’s industry-leading engineers, who study the behavior of the piano when being played. This behavior is converted into an algorithm and paired with a high-powered tone generator chip to actively recreate a truly expressive sound experience.
- Grand Expression Modeling is not just the playback of a recorded piano sound, but a nuanced sound with tonal variations that responds to the way you play.
- Virtual Resonance Modeling recreates the resonance present throughout the whole body of an acoustic grand piano, producing a rich reverberation of sound that envelopes both the player and listeners. VRM uses advanced calculations from the state of each string of the piano’s 88 notes along with the timing and depth of the damper pedal. These nuances allow for a widely varied level of expression from the Clavinova.
Other Instrument Voices
The CVP has a full library of guitars, strings, wind instruments, electronic instruments, brass, percussion, and many more. With up to 1,605 voices (models CVP-909GP/CVP-909) to choose from, you will never run out of options to inspire your creativity. Super Articulation technology adds subtle details to instrument voices by incorporating distinct characteristics for instrument voices, including fret noise on a guitar, breath on a saxophone, overblow on a flute, and glissandos when playing a clarinet.
Accompaniment Styles
Whether you are a beginning player, a hobbyist who plays using chords in the left hand, or an advanced player, the included accompaniment styles on a CVP Series instrument allow you to become the band leader and add a whole new level of expression to your playing. There are hundreds of musical styles, from a small jazz ensemble to a full orchestra. The harmony and dynamics of the accompaniment is controlled by your playing.
Every style includes:
- 3 introductions (short, medium, and long)
- 4 style variations that build from simple to complex as you move through the four options
- 3 endings (short, medium, and long)
- and even an instrumental break and 4 fills
Multiple fingering options available for you to guide the band:
- Single Finger
Play a single note in the bass with your left hand and the band plays full chords to accompany your right hand melody. - Fingered
Lets you play a full chord in the left hand. The root of the chord will be used as the bass for the accompaniment style. - Fingered on Bass
Lets you play a full chord in the left hand, including inversions. The lowest note of the chord inversion will be used as the bass for the accompaniment style. - Multi Finger
Allows the Clavinova to automatically detect Single Finger or Fingered playing styles, so you can use either without having to switch the fingering setting. - AI Fingered
Essentially the same as Fingered, but fewer than three notes can be played to indicate what chords to play. The piano uses AI and bases chords with less than two notes on previously played chords and progressions. - Full Keyboard
Chord detection occurs across the full 88 keys of the piano, not just in the left hand. - AI Full Keyboard
For the player who just wants to play normally and have the piano automatically create an appropriate accompaniment. Turn your favorite music into any style without having to worry about playing chords in your left hand.
Piano Room with Session Mode
Enter the Piano Selection Room and choose from the CVP’s top piano voices and performance spaces (reverb settings). Pull in up to three additional virtual musicians to accompany you using one of the 40 available styles within Piano Room.
Vocal Harmony
Plug in a microphone and harmonize your own voice. You can even correct your pitch. Kooky Karaoke is specially designed software for the Clavinova that supplies lyrics on the CVP’s screen and alters your voice to sound like the original artist and correct pitch (for those who need a little help).
Guide Lamps
The CVP’s Guide Lamps will help guide beginning fingers to the right note. Convert any internal file or personal MIDI files to be “Guide” compatible. Choose a song from Yamaha’s Follow Lights song library and enjoy playing beautiful arrangements of popular songs using just a single finger.
